Alexanders Timber Design (ATD) is part of Glennon Brothers timber frame division. Glennon Brothers is a third-generation family-owned business established in Longford, Ireland in 1913.
A key part of ATD`s sustainability strategy is our use of locally sourced Scottish timber, harvested in South West Scotland and processed at Glennon Brothers sawmill in Troon, just six miles from our new manufacturing facility in Irvine.
Reinforcing our Forest To Front Door policy, our Scottish Timber For UK Homes approach is unique to Alexanders Timber Design and significantly reduces the carbon footprint of our products whilst supporting the local supply chain and economy. 92% of the structural timber used to manufacture our wall panels is our own homegrown C16 material.
We have a unique sustainability story to tell that few can replicate. The logs that produce the C16 material for our frames come from sustainably managed forests within a 60 to 70-mile radius of our factory.
Homegrown timber, harvested and delivered by road and sea to our Troon sawmill, where they process the logs into sawn timber. They then dry the timber, grade the material, machine it, treat it, and then deliver it to us to manufacture our timber frame homes.
Waste material from the processing is then used to fuel our on-site CHP plant, creating electricity to power the sawmill and produce heat for the kilns, which dry the timber. Additional electricity produced is exported to the grid to help provide power for the homes we all live in.
The vast majority of our customers’ sites are located within 50 or 60 miles of our manufacturing facility.
People talk a lot now about sustainability and a circular economy. Our business is a real-life, exceptional example of the circular economy in action.
